Grippostad Rino drops 0.5 mg 10 ml - Instructions for use

Structure

active ingredients: xylometazoline hydrochloride;

1 ml contains xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.5 mg;

excipients: benzalkonium chloride; citric acid monohydrate, sodium; glycerin (85%); purified water.

Dosage form

Nasal drops, solution.

Basic physical and chemical properties: transparent, almost colorless solution, does not contain visible excess particles, odorless.

Pharmacotherapeutic group

Decongestants for topical use in diseases of the nasal cavity. Sympathomimetics, simple drugs. ATX code R01A A07.

Pharmacodynamics

Xylometazoline is an imidazoline derivative, an alpha-adrenergic sympathomimetic. Directly stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors and constricts blood vessels. When applied topically, it reduces swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Restores the patency of the nasal passages and facilitates nasal breathing by decongesting the mucous membrane and improving the drainage of secretions.

The drug begins to act in 5-10 minutes and takes several hours (on average 6-8 hours).

With intranasal administration, the amount of the drug is absorbed, sometimes it can be sufficient for the development of systemic effects, for example, in the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, xylometazoline is almost not detected in the blood plasma (the concentration in the blood plasma is less than the definition limit).

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion with colds, hay fever, other allergic rhinitis, sinusitis;

to facilitate the outflow of secretions in diseases of the paranasal sinuses;

auxiliary therapy for otitis media (to eliminate swelling of the mucous membrane);

to facilitate rhinoscopy.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to xylometazoline or to any other component of the drug, acute coronary diseases, coronary asthma, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, transphenoidal hypophysectomy and surgery with exposure of the meninges in history, dry rhinitis (rhinitis sicca) or atrophic rhinitis. Concomitant treatment with MAO inhibitors and within 2 weeks after stopping their use.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors): Xylometazoline can potentiate the action of MAO inhibitors and induce a hypertensive crisis. Do not use xylometazoline in patients who have taken or have taken MAO inhibitors within the past two weeks.

Three- and tetracyclic antidepressants: with the simultaneous use of three or tetracyclic antidepressants and sympathomimetics, the sympathomimetic effect of xylometazoline may be enhanced, therefore the simultaneous use of such agents is not recommended.

When used with beta-blockers, it may cause bronchial spasm or a drop in blood pressure.

Application features

GRIPPOSTAD® RINO 0.05% nasal drops should not be used in children under 1 year of age. Use for children aged 1 to 11 years is recommended only under adult supervision.

The drug should not be used in children for more than 7-10 days in a row. Excessive or prolonged use can lead to recurrence of nasal congestion and / or atrophy of the nasal mucosa.

The drug, like other sympathomimetics, should be used with caution in patients who have strong reactions to adrenergic drugs, which manifest themselves as insomnia, dizziness, tremors, cardiac arrhythmias or high blood pressure.

Do not exceed the recommended dose of the drug, especially when treating children and the elderly.

It should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases, arterial hypertension, patients with diabetes mellitus, with hyperfunction of the thyroid gland, pheochromocytoma, prostatic hypertrophy, and also not to be used in patients who received concomitant treatment with MAO inhibitors and within 2 weeks after stopping their use ...

Patients with prolonged QT syndrome receiving xylometazoline may have an increased risk of severe ventricular arrhythmias.

The drug contains benzalkonium chloride, which can irritate the nasal mucosa.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving or operating machinery

Usually, the drug does not have or has little effect on the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.

Use during pregnancy or lactation

The drug should not be used during pregnancy due to the potential vasoconstrictor effect.

There is no evidence of any unwanted influence on the infant. Due to the lack of data on how the active substance is excreted in breast milk, the drug should not be used during breastfeeding.

Fertility

There is no adequate data on the effect of the drug on fertility. Since systemic exposure to xylometazoline hydrochloride is very low, the likelihood of an effect on fertility is extremely low.

Method of administration and dosage

GRIPPOSTAD® RINO 0.05% nasal drops are intended for nasal administration. Children aged 1 to 5 years (under the supervision of adults) - 1-2 drops in each nostril up to 1-2 times a day if necessary, but no more than 3 times a day.

Children aged 6 to 11 years (under the supervision of adults) - 2-4 drops in each nostril up to 2-3 times a day if necessary, but no more than 3 times a day.

The dosage is determined depending on the individual sensitivity and symptoms of the disease. GRIPPOSTAD® RINO 0.05% nasal drops are not recommended for longer than 7-10 days.

It is necessary to apply drops as follows:

thoroughly cleanse the nose before using the drug;

tilt your head back as much as possible;

drip drops into each nostril and keep the head tilted back for a short time so that the drug is distributed throughout the nose,

after use, clean the dropper before placing it in the bottle;

in order to prevent infection, only one person can use each bottle of the drug.

The last application is recommended immediately before bedtime.

Children

GRIPPOSTAD® RINO 0.05% nasal drops should not be used in children under 1 year of age. Use for children aged 1 to 11 years is recommended only under adult supervision.

Overdose

Excessive local use of xylometazoline hydrochloride or its accidental ingestion can lead to severe dizziness, increased sweating, a significant decrease in body temperature, headache, bradycardia, arterial hypertension, respiratory depression, coma and seizures. High blood pressure can change to low blood pressure. Young children are more susceptible to toxicity than adults.

All patients with suspected overdose should be prescribed appropriate supportive measures, as well as, if necessary, urgent symptomatic treatment under control. Medical care should include monitoring the patient for several hours. In case of severe overdose, which is accompanied by cardiac arrest, resuscitation measures should last at least 1 hour.
